This was my first time working on a large scale project through Student Engagement and I feel that this project was well thought out and organized perfectly. It had a great balance between civic engagement and volunteerism that made it enjoyable and educational.
I’m learning more about the College of Science as I volunteer. I often call on others to help give information to the Nevada Bound Prospective Students. It just shows me that college is a learning process throughout the experience because there are so many awesome programs to help students succeed.
This experience brought me back to when I was a freshman who was scared to approach people. I enjoyed sharing my experiences in the COS so that these prospective students get a small taste of what college life is like. One thing I wish I shared was to not be afraid to approach and ask the people at the tables questions. It seemed like most were overwhelmed by the idea of talking to more knowledgeable people.
I was able to talk to participants of the event and make small talk. For others, they came up and asked questions about the event. I was able to share with them the steps to get started.
I enjoyed seeing the children and when I saw how excited they were to do the activities. As a student staff member, it's nice to see students and others in the community come together to enjoy time with the Pack
