The Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves on January 1st, 1863. Two years later, on June 19th, 1865, word reached slaves in Texas that they were free. Juneteenth is the day African-Americans celebrate their independence. NNBCAS invites the entire community to join this celebration with a festival of music, arts, ethnic food, crafts and entertainment.
