Unity in Diversity 2017

Wednesday, March 29th, 2017 from 5:00pm to 9:30pm

About

The Graduate Student Association at the University of Nevada, Reno is proud to present the 2nd annual Unity in Diversity Conference (UID). UID operates in the interest of promoting unity through the understanding and appreciation of differences. The student population at the University is vast and varied, making diversity one of our greatest assets. UID asserts fundamentally that assimilation is not unity. Unity is instead the critical and conscious move of individuals and communities toward mindfulness, understanding and compassion. We find that thinking critically of differences enhances the lives of individuals and communities and drives us to new ideas, technologies, and widened perspectives. We set the stage for speakers to communicate their own diversity experiences; we promote the experiencing of a diverse array of cuisines; we promote education in traditional cultural attires and practices; and finally we provide a space to meet new friends and colleagues.

The GSA is in the need of volunteers to serve the food samples, manage the speakers, and floaters for additional help.
